Carers Rights Day 19.11.26

Carers Rights Day, 19th November

There are around 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK. Carers Rights Day is designed to raise awareness of the rights they are entitled to, and to help them get the support they need and the recognition they deserve.

This year, the Carers Rights Day campaign is: ‘Someone you know is carer – but do they know it yet?’

The theme invites us all to come together to help people recognise sooner that they are a carer. It can take years for many people to realise that they’re a carer. Often, they simply see what they do as part of being someone’s partner, parent, family member, friend or neighbour. And all that time they could be missing out on the support and rights available. Knowing that they are an unpaid carer is the first step towards knowing their rights and getting the support they are entitled to.

From talking to friends, family and neighbours about caring, to championing better carer identification in our workplaces and services, we can all help people to recognise their caring role sooner.

Why not hold a Carers Rights Day event or activity? You don’t need to be an expert to help someone recognise their caring role or find out about their rights. Sometimes pointing someone in the right direction for help, advice and support can make all the difference.

You can find lots of information about carers and the support available, and resources to help you organise and promote an activity to support unpaid carers at https://www.carersuk.org/news-and-campaigns/our-campaigns/carers-rights-day/. From sharing posts on social media to holding a big event, every activity will help raise awareness this Carers Rights Day.
